Abstract:
In order to study the macroscopic behavior of travelers under the influence of guide information, travelers were divided into six groups according to their behavior characters: Traditional(TR), Pre-Specified paths(PS), Bounded-Rational(BR), User Equilibrium(UE)routes followers and System Optimal(SO)routes followers, and Variable Message Sign(VMS)users. Based on VISSIM simulator, the effectiveness evaluation models of every driver types were developed through COM interface. Finally, in the case of a small network, the effectiveness of dynamic guide information for VMS-drivers was evaluated. As a result, simulation-based model can evaluate various types of guide information. With and without comparison under the same traffic demand indicates that VMS can reduce travel time of main arterials, the travel time is decreased 21%. With and without comparison under various traffic demands indicates that VMS can increase the network speed, the average speed is increased about 3.97%. 1 tab, 5 figs, 10 refs.
