Abstract:
In order to solve the problem of frequent early diseases on the microsurfacing of asphalt pavements, waterborne epoxy resin (WER) and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) latex were used in the composite modification of emulsified asphalt to prepare a compositemodified waterborne epoxy emulsified asphalt microsurfacing. The asphalt was verified through three main indexes and adhesion properties. The water stability, abrasion resistance, and slip resistance of the mixture were taken as the evaluation criteria. The durability of the microsurfacing mixture under different waterborne epoxy resin contents was evaluated by the longterm immersion wet track abrasion test, multiple freezingthawing cycle wet track abrasion test (WTAT) and fourwheel accelerated abrasion test, respectively, and compared with SBR modified emulsified asphalt microsurfacing. The results show that composite modification significantly improve the highand lowtemperature performance and adhesion performance of the emulsified asphalt. The microsurfacing mixture also has better durability than ordinary SBR modified emulsified asphalt microsurfacing. The WTAT values do not increase significantly under the conditions of long immersion time and multiple freezingthawing cycles, and it has good water stability. The wear resistance can be maintained at a higher level during 15 000 times of accelerated wear, and the rate of decline of antislip performance is lower than that of SBR microsurfacing. When the waterborne epoxy resin content is increased to 8%, the durability of the composite modified microsurfacing continuously improves, the attenuation rate of various properties gradually slow down during the test. When the waterborne epoxy resin content exceed 8%, the improvement of durability at microsurface is no longer obvious, hence, the waterborne epoxy resin content should not exceed 8%.
