Abstract:
In order to study effect of vehicle load causing unbalanced earth pressure of backfill behind abutment on horizontal deformation of steel Hpile in integral abutment jointless bridges (IAJBs), several reciprocating lowcycle pseudostatic tests on soilabutmentsteel Hpile interaction with or without considering the effect of unbalanced earth pressure of backfill behind abutment were carried out. A comparative study was performed to find the effect of larger unbalanced earth pressure on horizontal deformation, accumulative deformation, horizontal deformation under single step displacement loading, hysteresis, energy and skeleton curves of pile. The results show that the steel Hpile in IAJBs has no accumulative deformation basically under small displacement loading. The accumulative deformation of pile foundation increases under large displacement loading. In addition, the LAHP and AHP specimens induce positive local accumulative deformation in the shallow depth range. They induce the overall negative accumulative deformation in the deeper depth range. The larger unbalance earth pressure of backfill behind abutment has an important effect on horizontal deformation, accumulative deformation, horizontal deformation under single step displacement loading, hysteresis, energy and skeleton curves of steel Hpile in IAJBs. Among on, the horizontal deformation, accumulative deformation, horizontal deformation under single step displacement loading of AHP and LAHP specimens are significant differences in the shallow depth range. In addition, the positive and negative unbalance force and positive accumulative deformation of LAHP specimen are less than those of AHP specimen. However, the negative accumulative deformation and equivalent viscous damping coefficient are larger than those of AHP specimen. 2 tabs, 14 figs, 32 refs.
