- Abstract:
- In order to meet the demands of assessment and maintenance for stay cables, the fatigue analysis of stay cables based on traffic load model was proposed. According to the weighing data from toll station and monitoring video of bridge, the maximum likelihood estimation and EM algorithm were used to establish vehicle load statistical models with 12 types of vehicle and other parameters, such as gross weight, wheel weigh, and velocity. A program was developed based on the MonteCarlo method, the Poisson process theory and the vehicle following method. This program was used to randomly generate the position and magnitude of the traffic load. The cable force time history was obtained by conducting the established traffic model with influence line. A comparison with the data that separated from monitoring system measurements was also adopted to verify its effectiveness. Then, considering the longterm trend of the traffic load model, the SN curve of corroded stay cables and Miners linear damage accumulating theory were used to analyze and predict the longterm performance of the undamaged and corroded stay cables. The results show that the weight of vehicles are subject to the multipeak distributions. When establishing the traffic load model, the mixed distribution model and the correlation between the vehicle weight and the wheel weight should be considered. The cable force calculated by the traffic load model was line to the measured cable force while the KullbackLeibler (KL) divergence is about 0.1, which proves the established model can simulate the actual traffic flow accurately, thus can be used for further analysis and prediction. Corrosion is an important factor that influences the fatigue life of stay cables. According to the analysis results of the background bridge, fatigue damage will not occur in the undamaged stay cables. However, corrosion significantly decreases the fatigue life of stay cables, and even causes early fracture. 6 tabs, 9 figs, 26 refs.
