In order to establish the relationship between vibration acceleration and the degree of pavement compaction for the detection of compactness, this paper analyzed dynamic relationship between vibration compaction and the pavement compacted material, and established dynamic mathematical model. On this basis the automatic and continuous detection technology of pavement compaction degree was put forward. Then the technique and method using vertical effective value of vibration acceleration to represent compaction degree was studied and the field test was conducted. The results show that the vertical vibration acceleration is positively related to pavement stiffness, and negatively related to damping. The compactness of base course, middle pavement and top pavement is positively related to wheel vertical vibration acceleration RMS, and the correlation coefficients R2 are 0.900 2, 0.934 0, and 0.931 4. The continuous monitoring system can easily and accurately measure pavement compactness, control the quality of road in real time effectively, and thus improve the efficiency of compaction.
