Abstract:
On the basis of collected speed data, taking an expressway tunnel group section from Xi'an to Hanzhong as an example, the operating speed of each observation point was obtained from the free flow speed cumulative curve. The change of the operating speed was analyzed at different tunnel sections and the factors which influenced the operating speed, such as tunnel length, different positions in the tunnel and horizontal and vertical alignment were analyzed. The results show that regardless of larger vehicle or car, before entering the tunnel, the deceleration distance is approximately 50 m, the maximum range of large vehicle is 4 km/h and the car is 9 km/h. The operating speed at the tunnel exit is higher than that at entrance. The operating speed is more influenced by short tunnels, as well as by the tunnel connection section length. The change of the operating speed at the section of horizontal and vertical alignment combination is relatively large, the car is 26 km/h and the large vehicle 7 km/h. Induction signs should be set for traffic flow guidance to make up for the deficiency in the linear design of tunnel group section according to its operating speed characteristics. 3 tabs, 7 figs, 8 refs.
