Abstract:
In order to master the theory of benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons generated in combustion process, a constant volume combustion bomb was designed, combustion process was analyzed, a series of tests were conducted, and the emissions of benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were measured by a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyzer. The results indicate that some of benzene in exhaust is from the incomplete combustion fuel. The free radicals out of cracking fuel in combustion process may also react to form benzene. The ethanol added into the fuels unnecessarily helps to increase the emission of benzene, for it depends on the concentration of component. The emissions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons varies with temperature. 6 figs, 10 refs.
