Abstract:
The current asphalt pavement designing standards in China adopt deflection on the surface of road, flexural stress on the bottom of asphalt layer and flexural stress on the bottom of semi-rigid layer as the main designing indexes with the interlayer binding condition assumed to be totally continuous. Actually, the pavement structural layers are built respectively and the interlayer condition is incompletely continuous, which affects the mechanical response of pavement structure greatly. With Beijing-Tianjing-Tangshan expressway upgrading project as an example and two types of interlayer conditions considered, Bisar3.0 under shell design system and numerical software Matlab 7.0 were used to describe the 3-D mechanical responses and determine the maximum stress point on three kinds of common asphalt pavement. The results show that stress and strain of the structure greatly increase under discontinuous interlayer condition. The sites of maximum stress and strain are different under the two types of interlayer condition of the three kinds of pavement. The mechanical response of compound pavement is between the flexural pavement and the semi-rigid pavement. It's suggested that the analysis of mechanical responses at specified point under discontinuous interlayer condition is significant and necessary for designing the pavement structures, which can provide basis in the reliability evaluation in the project circle. 7 tabs, 7 figs, 10 refs.
