Abstract:
An axial compression test was practiced on a steel and high-performance-concrete composite bridge tower segment in order to study the structure behavior of the composite towers. From the test, the limit load-capacity and failure mode of the specimen were obtained, and the regularity of the strain and deformation were analyzed. The limit load-capacity was calculated according to the related codes of China and other countries, and two other calculate methods were proposed based on the test. The result shows that the local buckling of the panels has great influence on the limit load-capacity of the composite towers, when calculating the axial compression limit load-capacity, the local buckling of the panels must be determined firstly, and then adopting the formula for rectangle concrete filled steel tubular structures in design codes or the methods proposed in this paper. 2 tabs, 9 figs, 13 refs.
