Abstract:
The theoretical analysis for calculating air visibility shows the feasibility to apply digital image processing technology on air visibility measurement, based on which a new freeway air visibility measurement system is proposed. The hardware structure of the freeway air visibility measurement system is composed of high performance DSP IC, model TMS320C6713, the core of the structure, analog image-sampling circuit, A/D conversion circuit, image storage, power management module and communication module and the arithmetic of the system can be divided into three steps, which are brightness correction, self adapt threshold and the object separation from background and calculation of air visibility. The examinations to the system testify that it can work well in the different weather conditions of freeway. The measurement accuracy can be achieved by ±13%, which can satisfy the requirement of highway meteorological visibility measurement, ±20% in two kilometer. 4 figs, 8 refs.
