Abstract:
The characteristic parameters of each particle, such as area, perimeter, boundary rectangle, and equivalent ellipse, are obtained through the contrast stretching, median filtering, threshold processing, binary image morphological operation and the particle analysis sequentially to the digital image of the asphalt mix. The mineral gradation of the asphalt mix is calculated by carrying on error compensation to the measured data. The results indicate that the digital image processing is of high efficiency in the mineral gradation measurement of the asphalt mix and the operations such as contrast stretching and median filtering can remove the image defects to make it more suitable for following processing. For the image-based particle analysis data have good correlation, the measured result is close to the designed gradation of the asphalt mix. The mineral gradation measurement method using the image processing techniques is feasible and could be used instead of the sieving method. 2 tabs, 11 figs, 12 refs.
