Abstract:
Digital image processing technique was used to convert computerized tomography(CT)image into a digital form that can be incorporated into finite element modeling. An actual microstructure-based numerical FEM model was adopted to simulated semi-circular bending test with considering the influence of in homogeneities.Three material phases(aggregates,voids and sand mastic)of hot asphalt mixture were modeled with finite elements.The mechanical properties of hot asphalt mixture can be evaluated with the mechanical input of aggregates and sand mastic. The numerical simulation results show that in homogeneities have a large impact on mechanical properties of asphalt concrete. 1 tab, 6 figs, 15 refs.
