Abstract:
The control of urban freeway network with multi-origin and multi-destination is a dynamic, nonlinear, discrete-time optimal control problem. This paper presented nonlinear optimization method for traffic control using a second order macroscopic traffic flow model. The control measure is route diversion by VMS. And this paper presents an integrated search algorithm. A test example for route diversion is given. The simulation results show that, under the same traffic conditions, the numerical example of network performance is improved greatly, the total consuming time is decreased 8.9% than the one of no control network and the queue of entrance is basically eliminated, the presented integrated search algorithm is efficient and applicable for increasing the network performance. 1 tab, 4 figs, 9 refs.
