Abstract:
Median opening space is a key problem when vehicles left turn is forbidden and indirect turn must be done at downstream section. Using freeway weaving theory for reference, the median opening spacing model of indirect left turn is developed, and microsimulation is carried out. It is found that the average delay of indirect left turn with the spacing model is reduced by 4.6 s compared with the direct left turn, and the effect is remarkable when the distance of adjacent intersection is long and the road design speed is not fast. 5 tabs, 4 figs, 14 refs.
